The Repair of Goods Directive

This summer, the EU’s new Repair of Goods Directive comes into effect. A shift away from the throwaway culture.

In summer 2026, the EU’s new Repair of Goods Directive will come into effect. It marks a necessary step towards a more responsible and sustainable approach to consumption and production – particularly in the case of electrical goods and small appliances, where repair has often been overlooked in favour of replacement.

The directive requires manufacturers and importers to:

• Make spare parts available for a longer period
• Provide access to technical information
• Offer clear estimates of repair costs and timeframes
• Supply a standardised “repair information form”

In the white goods sector, repair and long service life have long been part of the culture. At EICO, we therefore see this initiative as a natural continuation of the way we already work.

We keep a wide range of spare parts in stock for many years after production ends. Our service partners have access to technical data and manuals, enabling repairs to be carried out efficiently and correctly. We work closely with manufacturers to develop solutions where individual components can be replaced instead of discarding entire units.

Repair Goods

We offer a 2-year full warranty on all products – and extended cover on selected ranges where manufacturers have chosen to strengthen collaboration:

• 5 years on NikolaTesla and selected Vestfrost wine coolers
• 7 years on Elica Cooking

But the warranty isn’t the point. What truly matters is what happens when something goes wrong.

Long service life isn’t just about technology – it’s about responsibility. For us, that means ensuring access to spare parts, qualified service, and genuine options to repair rather than replace.

We hope the directive will help raise standards across the industry – and support a more circular approach, where durability and trust are valued more than disposability and quick fixes.
